I’ve talked about how to engage readers on Pinterest, but how do you grow your following and interactions? As Rachel says, let’s deconstruct!
If you want to increase your presence on Pinterest, you must be actively pinning. Actively pinning means daily pinning, which can seem daunting, but here are a few ways you can make it easy:
Download the pin it button to your web browser and pin pictures from articles as you read them. Just remember to pin content with value! If you read an article and found that it did not have much to offer, skip pinning it. [share ]Only pin things you believe your audience will find valuable.[/share]
[share ]Use a scheduling tool like Tailwind to schedule pins in advance.[/share] Not only does Tailwind help you separate out your pins throughout the day, it also helps you pin at the best times of the day for your account. And as an added bonus with Tailwind, you can now pin directly from your Instagram account. This is an excellent way to recycle your content and reach a new audience.
It may seem like a no-brainer, but still to this day I see people wonder why their social media accounts aren’t growing while they refuse to spend the time following others. Make a checklist:
Follow five new accounts a week.
Comment on two new pins a week.
Follow each relevant account that pinned one of your pins. (You can see who is pinning your content in your notifications. Make sure you check each account for relevance. In other words, if you are an author, you want to follow accounts of readers, authors, publishers, book bloggers, and other people involved with books.)
Have Pinterest buttons on your website.
Make sure readers can easily tell you are on Pinterest and can easily pin your content. Here are the basics you should have:
Include a follow button for Pinterest with your other social media buttons.
One of the easiest ways to gain more followers is to create seasonal or “hot topic” boards. Since people search these seasonal / hot topic terms looking for ideas, make sure you stay ahead of the trends to see account growth. Here are a few ideas:
Make a board for “Christmas Gift Ideas” and feature the board at the top of your profile before Christmas. (I suggest by Thanksgiving at the latest.) Pin books (including yours!), kindles, bookmarks, bookends, and anything else you’d give as a present. Here is an example: https://www.pinterest.com/K8Tilton/gift-ideas-for-book-lovers/
Since food/recipes, party ideas, and crafts are huge hits on Pinterest, create a board that incorporates all three with a focus on an upcoming holiday or big event (like the Superbowl). Use this board to connect with your readers by sharing how you celebrate the holiday or event.
