What Is #MondayBlogs (Hint: NOT For Book Promo)

A weekly hashtag tradition I created in the 2010s that helps writers and bloggers build community and drive traffic. This is NOT for book promotion. We do enough of that, and see enough of that. No, this is to share your writing, follow others, connect with readers and other creators, and overall, grow your traffic.

If you’re a writer or blogger looking for more eyes on your work and you’re tired of posting into the void, #MondayBlogs may become your favorite weekly ritual. When I first started the hashtag, it was exclusive to Twitter. Now that it’s X and many writers have made the grand “X-odus,” I also do #MondayBlogs on Bluesky as well.

Here’s everything you need to know to use it well and get seen.

How Can #MondayBlogs Help Me?

#MondayBlogs is a Twitter/X hashtag used to share blog posts every Monday. If it’s Monday where you are in the world, it’s time for #MondayBlogs. Writers, authors, creatives, and content creators from around the world come together to share posts (new or evergreen), discover new voices, and foster a sense of community.

What Should We Share?

Anything that doesn’t SELL your services, books, courses, etc. Also, we don’t share porn (erotica writers are welcome, though).

The hashtag was started in 2012 by yours truly to give bloggers a regular, supportive way to share their work. If you have a video or a Substack post you’d like to share (as long as it’s non-book promotional), that works too.

Every Monday, thousands of tweets include the hashtag, creating a ripple effect of reads, shares, and meaningful connections. My team and I try to retweet/repost as many as we can, but as this is a volunteer effort, we welcome your help in sharing and resharing posts you enjoy.

How It Works

Participating in #MondayBlogs is simple:

  1. Every Monday, tweet a link to your blog post, video, or Substack with the hashtag #MondayBlogs.
  2. Stick to non-book promo blog posts, Substacks, guest articles, or videos. No promo graphics, book sales, or random selfies. That’s what #WriterWednesday or #BookTok are for.
  3. Engage with others. Read, comment, and especially retweet posts you enjoy. This is not a “drop and ghost” event.

📌 Bonus tip: You can also tag @MondayBlogs to be sure we see it.

Why You Should Use #MondayBlogs

If you’re a blogger, writer, or creative trying to grow your platform, the benefits are tangible:

  • Boost Your Visibility: Attract more readers to your posts by tapping into an established and active community.
  • Build Relationships: When you retweet and support others, they’re more likely to help you back. It’s social media at its best.
  • Recycle Great Content: You don’t need a new blog post each week. Share older posts that are still relevant, as this helps your content remain evergreen.

Tips to Make the Most of It

Want to stand out? Here are a few quick wins:

  • Tweet during peak hours (mid-morning or lunchtime, in your time zone).
  • Use an eye-catching hook or question to introduce your blog link.
  • Add a strong visual or featured image link preview. People are far more likely to click.
  • Schedule your tweet in advance using tools like Buffer, Hootsuite, or VistaSocial.
  • Be generous with retweets. Engagement matters more than self-promotion.

Real Talk: What #MondayBlogs Is Not

This isn’t the place for selling stuff, running giveaways, or dropping AI-generated fluff.

The point is to create value. Share personal stories, writing advice, industry insights, or reflections that your audience will care about. It’s about connection, not conversion.

In Summary

#MondayBlogs = Show up. Share a post. Retweet others. Grow together.

That’s it. It’s not magic, but it works, especially when done consistently.
